Walk With Meee Pty Ltd ABN: 83656526215 (“we“, “us“) runs the Walk With Meee app and walkwithmeee.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Questions or requests: support@walkwithmeee.com
1. Who can use Walk With Meee
Walk With Meee is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your first and last name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form – we can’t read them. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address (Apple may give us a private relay address) and an identifier for that account.
- Profile: your photo, gender, year of birth (shown to others only as an age range), walking speed, preferred walking times and length of walk, whether you walk with children or pets, how far you’re willing to travel, your status (Looking now / Looking ahead / Resting) and display preferences.
- Addresses: your home area (state and postcode; the street is optional) and, if you choose, your work area, used to work out distances to other walkers. We store the location of each only to within about 1 km, never the exact spot. Other walkers never see your address – only an approximate distance, rounded to the nearest kilometre or mile.
- Walks and activity: walk requests (date, time, meeting place, pace, length, notes, and whether children or pets are coming), who you walk with, your favourites, the walkers you block, and reports you make about a walk.
- Messages: chat messages you send to other walkers.
- Reviews and ratings: ratings and comments you leave after a walk. Other walkers see your ratings only combined with others’ (as averages), and comments without your name.
- Email preference: whether you’d like occasional support and update emails.
Information collected when you use the app
- Location: with your permission, your device’s location while you are using the app, to find walkers near you and suggest meeting places. We do not track your location in the background.
- Sign-in records: when you sign in we record the date and time, your IP address, your approximate location, the type of device and the app version. We use this to protect your account – for example, to email you when your account is signed in on a new phone.
- Device information: a notification token so we can send you push notifications (for walk requests and messages), and – only if you allow it – your device’s advertising identifier (see section 5).
3. How we use your information
- To run the service: create your account, show you walkers nearby, arrange walks, deliver messages and notifications, and show reviews.
- To show how well you match other walkers: the app compares your walking speed, preferred time, walk length and distance with theirs and shows a match score. The score is worked out on your phone and is not stored.
- To keep the community safe:
- Automated content checks. Profile photos are checked by Google Cloud Vision for adult or violent images, and text you write (walk notes, messages, reviews and names) is checked by Google Cloud Natural Language and our own word list. Clearly abusive content is refused; borderline content is saved and flagged for our team to review.
- Handling blocks, reports and suspensions.
- Allowing your account to be signed in on one phone at a time, and emailing you about new sign-ins.
- To send you emails: account emails we must send (such as password reset codes and sign-in alerts), and – only if you agree – a welcome email and occasional support and update emails. You can change this any time in Me → Display & email preferences.
- To show advertising and measure how well our own ads work (section 5).
- To fix problems, improve the app, and meet our legal obligations.
4. Who we share it with
Other walkers see your first name, photo, approximate distance, age range, gender, walking speed, preferred walking time, status, and (in summary) your ratings. People you arrange walks with also see the walk details and your messages to them.
We use these service providers to run Walk With Meee. They handle information only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What for |
|---|
| Google – Firebase, Maps, Cloud Vision, Cloud Natural Language | Sign-in, push notifications, maps and addresses, photo and text safety checks |
| Google AdMob | Showing ads (section 5) |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, push notifications on iPhone |
| Meta (Facebook / Instagram) | Measuring our own ad campaigns (section 5) |
| OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) | Turning a sign-in location into an approximate place name for sign-in alert emails |
Overseas: our servers are in the United States, and several of the providers above process information in the United States and other countries. We choose providers that protect personal information to standards comparable to the Australian Privacy Principles.
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect someone’s safety.
5. Advertising and tracking
- Walk With Meee shows ads from Google AdMob (a full-screen ad when you open the app, at most every few hours, and a small banner). Pro members see no ads.
- In the EU, UK and some other places, you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown. Without consent, ads are not personalised.
- On iPhone, the app asks permission to track (Apple’s App Tracking Transparency). If you say no, your advertising identifier is not shared.
- We use the Meta SDK to count app installs, registrations and walk requests, to see whether our own ads on Facebook and Instagram work. With your permission this may include your advertising identifier.
- You can reset or limit your advertising identifier in your phone’s settings (iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; Android: Settings → Google → Ads).
6. Our website
- Visits: walkwithmeee.com counts visits with Burst Statistics, which runs on our own server without cookies and does not identify you. We use it only to see which pages are useful.
- Contact and support forms: if you send us a message through the website, we receive your name, email address and message by email and keep a copy in our website’s admin area, so we can reply. We delete these messages when they are no longer needed, and within 12 months.
7. How long we keep it
- We keep your account information while your account is open.
- Deleting your account: in the app, open the menu (☰), choose Delete my account and confirm. Your account is closed straight away – you are signed out and no longer appear to others – and your profile, photo, walks, messages, reviews, favourites, blocks and sign-in records are deleted, normally within 24 hours. You can also ask us at support@walkwithmeee.com.
- After deletion we keep only a record that an account was deleted and when (an internal number and date – no name, email or other details).
- Records of content refused or flagged by our safety checks may be kept for up to 12 months to help keep the community safe.
- Deleted information may remain in our encrypted backups for up to 30 days before it is overwritten.
8. Keeping it secure
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords only in hashed form, limit who on our team can access personal information, and require a secure sign-in for every request to our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm.
9. Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information: most of it is in Me → View my profile / Edit profile. For anything else, email us.
- Delete your account: menu (☰) → Delete my account.
- Emails: Me → Display & email preferences.
- Location: you can turn location access off in your phone’s settings, though the app needs it to find walkers near you.
- Ads and tracking: see section 5.
- Complaints: contact us first at support@walkwithmeee.com and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. If you live in the EU or UK, you may also contact your local data protection authority.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If the changes are significant we’ll tell you in the app or by email. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
